Talking the Talk: Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Did someone ever start talking to you about “e-Commerce” or “Social Media” or “SEO” and you found yourself just standing there with your head going up and down like a bobblehead wondering what they’re actually saying? It’s OK. We’ve all been there. I’m here to help. Here in each WSI Weston Florida blog entry we’re are going to literally spell out a different term for you that’s sure to get your head to stop from bobbling.
SEO—(Search Engine Optimization) You know that you’re supposed to be doing it but what the heck is it? It’s the practice of strategically constructing your web site in such a way as to increase your ranking on the results page of search engines. Let’s say for example you’re a running say a day spa in Miami, Florida. The higher you show up in Google’s search results when ever someone types in “day spa Miami” the more visitor’s you’ll get to your site. Generally speaking SEO involves choosing several keyword for each page of your site and then building both the internal architecture and the content on the page around these terms. The search engines send out “spiders” crawling all over the web gathering information to feed into their database to use for indexing of web sites. The complex algorithms that a search engine like Google uses to rank sites is a well guarded secret that SEO specialists spend their days trying to crack. Generally speaking the search engines reward relevancy. That’s to say don’t try and pretend to be something your not—which is always good advice.
